Academic exams

Do you want to earn an academic qualification from a leading UK educational institution or other international universities?

The British Council administers exams on behalf of many UK and international universities and colleges, making distance learning possible around the world. To find out more about education opportunities in the UK, please visit the EducationUK website.

For information about taking an international university exam with the British Council in Uganda, please read through the sections below.

How do I register for an exam?

Please download and complete the university exams registration form and email it to or fax it to +256 414 254 853 along with your proof of payment.

Please ensure you complete your form fully, especially your telephone numbers so we can contact you if we have any questions about your application. Please also indicate the examination body and dates for the examination and ensure you sign the form.

Location, fees and payment


You will sit your exam at our Kampala exams centre.


The British Council charges a fee for administering your exams and for sending your scripts via courier to your institution. These  fees are UGX 365,000 per paper per candidate.


Please refer to the payment details on the application form. In addition to the stated fees please add UGX 3,000 as bank charges for each payment made.

What to bring to your exam

Please bring the following with you to your exam session:

  • Identification such as ID book, passport, driving licence, voting card, student photo ID card
  • statement of entry
  • pens and pencils in a clear plastic bag
  • basic calculator

No electronic devices, e.g. mobile phones, are allowed to be taken into exams.

The British Council and the examining boards take all reasonable steps to provide continuity of service. We are sure you will understand, however, that we cannot be held responsible for any interruptions caused by circumstances beyond our control. If examinations or their results are disrupted, cancelled or delayed, every effort will be made to resume normal service as soon as possible. The British Council’s liability will be limited to the refund of the registration fee or retesting at a later date.
