The British Council administers exams on behalf of many UK and international universities and colleges, making distance learning possible around the world. To find out more about education opportunities in the UK, please visit the EducationUK website.

For information about taking an international university exam with the British Council in Uganda, please read through the sections below.

How do I register for an exam?

Please download and complete the university exams registration form and email it to along with your proof of payment.

Please ensure you complete your form fully, especially your telephone numbers so we can contact you if we have any questions about your application. Please also indicate the examination body and dates for the examination and ensure you sign the form.

Location, fees and payment


You will sit your exam at the British Council Examination centre


The British Council charges a fee for administering your exams and for sending your scripts via courier to your institution. These fees are changing to 390,000 per exam, per candidate effective 1 April 2018. 


Please refer to the payment details on the application form. In addition to the stated fees please add UGX 2,750 as bank charges for each payment made. Before making a payment, please contact British Council to acquire a payment reference number. Payments without a reference will not be acted upon.

What to bring to your exam

Please bring the following with you to your exam session:

  • Identification such as passport, national ID, driving licence, student ID card

  • No electronic devices e.g. mobile phones, digital watches, are to be taken into the exam room.

The British Council and the examining boards take all reasonable steps to provide continuity of service. We are sure you will understand, however, that we cannot be held responsible for any interruptions caused by circumstances beyond our control. If examinations or their results are disrupted, cancelled or delayed, every effort will be made to resume normal service as soon as possible. The British Council’s liability will be limited to the refund of the registration fee or retesting at a later date.
